The Keystone KC
Proven Process

Wet basements cause a lot of stress, damage to property, and belongings. Water intrusion into homes and buildings can lead to respiratory health issues, cosmetic and structural damage if not addressed in a timely manner. From damp walls to flowing water, basement moisture is a problem in many properties in the Kansas City region but Keystone KC has the tools and expertise to help.

What You Might Notice

Damp or wet walls during rain, mold or mildew, or warped/buckling basement floors.

Waterproofing

To protect your basement and foundation from leaks, moisture, and long-term damage, waterproofing can be done from the interior or exterior. There are many factors to consider when designing a waterproofing system. A knowledgeable assessor can identify the locations and cause of water intrusion, assess other property aspects, and determine whether interior, exterior waterproofing, or a combination of both is the best solution for your property. In most circumstances, Keystone KC likes to stop water before it enters your home.

How & Why They Work

For exterior waterproofing, the wall(s) in the affected area will be excavated to the foundation footing. A permeable gravel layer and drain are installed, and exterior walls get a coating of waterproof tar. The drain can be daylighted to an appropriate drainage point or directed to a sump pump. The dirt is then replaced, compacted, and graded in a positive slope to ensure water stays away from your foundation.

Interior waterproofing can encompass a range of services, from crack sealing to encapsulating basement walls or crawl spaces. Typically, water entering the home is collected in a perimeter drain system and directed to a sump pump, which then discharges it outside.

Drains and Grading

By installing drains and proper grading, we can direct water away from your home, preventing it from becoming a future headache. This type of water management works to address wet spots in the yard or slow-moving and standing water near your foundation. It might look like extended downspouts, a French drain, or even small area inlets to carry water away. Creating positive soil grade around your home is a simple but effective way to prevent wet basements and future foundation issues.

How & Why They Work

Grading is the slope of soil surrounding your home. Calculating the correct slope of grading and strategically placing down spouts and drains away from the structure can keep your basement dry and prevent future foundation issues.

Crawl Space Encapsulation

Turn your crawl space into a dry, clean, and sealed environment. Utilizing heavy waterproof plastic and sealant tape. This can include several additional items such as insulation and gravel under the plastic barrier.

How & Why They Work

Insulation and gravel are installed, if included, and a thick plastic barrier is installed up the walls and columns to the top of the concrete. Special tape madefor this purpose is used to attach the plastic to the walls, at the seams and around any columns.
